Drawing on the Strengths of Physicians and Researchers Across
UT Southwestern
High Resolution MRI in Patients with Brain Tumors
To determine the benefit of 7T magnetic resonance imaging in brain tumor patients, establish signature metabolic spectra for low grade glioma, glioblastoma, and metastatic tumors, and determine if changes in signature spectra identify progressive disease in areas outside the tumor margins.
About our Program
Simmons Cancer Center offers brain and spinal cord tumor patients the most advanced treatments available, in a modern, convenient setting. Our clinicians and researchers are nationally recognized leaders in the development and use of radiation therapies to precisely target brain and spinal cord tumors while sparing surrounding tissues. The rapid advancement of imaging techniques and technologies has enabled our specialists to determine the location, shape, and size of brain and spinal cord tumors with an unprecedented level of precision.

Treatment Options
After carefully evaluating the patient’s test results, a UT Southwestern neurosurgeon may perform a surgical biopsy to determine the exact nature of the illness, then plan a precise course of action to treat any discovered cancer.
Our radiation oncology specialists apply advanced technologies, such as:

|
|
|
|
These capabilities enable UT Southwestern' specialists to more effectively plan, simulate, deliver, and verify radiation treatments. The extensive magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET) facilities at UT Southwestern are among the most advanced in the nation and enable us to provide patients with the best possible medical care.
Patients in our clinical trials program receive therapies years before they become available to the public. Clinical trials may provide superior therapeutic results with fewer side effects when compared to conventional treatments. Patients can discuss with their doctor whether they are a candidate for some of these groundbreaking therapies.
To learn more about the diagnosis and treatment of brain and spinal cancer, spend some time in our Cancer Information library. If you have questions, be sure to talk with your physician or another member of your clinical care team.
